Why your system needs power flushing

Over the years, sludge, rust and debris build up inside your heating system. Radiators develop cold spots, rooms take longer to heat, and your boiler works harder than it should, driving up bills and shortening its life.

Is it time?

Six signs you need a power flush

Cold spots on radiators

Bottom stays cold while the top is warm, classic sign of sludge in the bottom of the radiator.

Banging or kettling boiler

Noisy, gurgling or banging noises from the boiler or pump mean restricted flow.

Cloudy or black water

Bleed a radiator, if the water's cloudy or black, that's magnetite sludge and corrosion.

Uneven heating

Some radiators hot, others barely warm. The sludge blocks flow to the weakest points first.

Rising energy bills

Your boiler is burning more fuel to move heat through a restricted system. Fuel savings of 15–25% are possible on affected systems.

Recurring breakdowns

Pumps fail, valves stick, heat exchangers block up. Sludge is often the underlying cause.

What a power flush does

Restores your system to like-new condition

A powerful machine is connected to your heating system to circulate a high-flow, low-pressure stream of water and specialist cleaning chemicals. This breaks down the sludge and magnetite that's been sitting in your radiators and pipework for years.

We use pro-grade Kamco and Fernox equipment with powerful double-magnet filtration. This physically captures ferrous sludge as it circulates, giving you real-time visibility of how much contamination is coming out.

Once flushed, your system is refilled with fresh water and corrosion inhibitor. The result: hotter radiators, faster heat-up times, lower fuel bills, and a boiler that isn't fighting a restriction.

How it works

What happens on the day

Typically a single day's work. We arrive, flush, inhibit, test and go.

Before

Sludge, rust and magnetite build up in radiators and pipework. Cold spots appear. The boiler fights a restriction.

Flush & capture

High-flow pumped flush with chemical cleaner. Our magnetic filter captures every bit of ferrous sludge as it circulates.

After

System refilled with fresh water and corrosion inhibitor. Radiators heat evenly again. Fuel efficiency restored.

Step-by-step on the day

  • 1. Chemical flush
Specialist cleaning chemicals circulate through the system to break down sludge and corrosion.
  • 2. Pumped flush through every radiator
High-flow, low-pressure pumped flush targets every radiator individually to dislodge debris.
  • 3. Magnetic capture
Our pro-grade filter captures magnetite as it flows out, showing you exactly how much corrosion has been removed.
  • 4. System refill with inhibitor
Fresh water plus corrosion inhibitor protects the system from future buildup.
  • 5. MagnaClean filter (recommended)
Installed onto the return pipe, catches any future magnetite before it causes damage. Most manufacturers now require a magnetic filter to maintain warranty.
  • 6. Test run and written report
We heat the system, check every radiator is fully warm, and issue a written report for your records.

Good for your warranty

Most boiler warranties require a system inhibitor plus magnetic filtration to remain valid. Some manufacturers extend warranty to 10+ years if the system is flushed every five years. A power flush isn't just maintenance, it's often essential to protect your warranty.

Common questions

Frequently asked

How long does a power flush take?

Typically 6–8 hours for a standard home, one full working day. Larger systems or heavily contaminated systems take longer. We'll confirm when we visit.

How much does it cost?

From £600 for a standard home system. The final price depends on the number of radiators, system size, and whether a MagnaClean filter is being added.

Will it damage my system?

No. Power flushing uses high flow but low pressure, so the system itself isn't stressed. On very old systems with pre-existing leaks, flushing can reveal weaknesses, but those leaks would fail anyway. We'll assess the system before starting.

Will I notice a difference?

Almost always, yes. Hotter radiators, faster warm-up, quieter boiler. On badly-affected systems, fuel savings of 15–25% are realistic.

Is it a one-off or a regular service?

For most homes it's a one-off, with a MagnaClean filter added to catch any future magnetite. Some manufacturers recommend repeating every 5 years as part of warranty terms.

Can you do it before fitting a new boiler?

Yes, we often recommend it. A new boiler plumbed into an old sludgy system will suffer. Flushing first protects your investment and keeps the new warranty valid.
